Honoring Volunteers

Finding time to volunteer doesn’t come easy, with career and family obligations.  It takes commitment and a generous nature.  That’s why it’s an honor to give much-deserved attention to the FER 2019 Industry Service Award recipients.  Brad Pierce, Restaurant Equipment World; Eric Norman, FCSI, Clevenger Associates; Mike McGuire, Zink Foodservice Group; Wayne Stoutner, Duffy’s-AIS; and Jeff Cook, McDonald’s Corp., have poured time and energy into their respective associations or for Cook, into the NRA Kitchen Innovations Awards program and industry committees.  Each recipient has made substantial, career-long contributions to the foodservice E&S industry.  In fact, many of them volunteer even outside foodservice.  Pierce is a perfect example as a Homeland Security Emergency Transport pilot.  Or Stoutner, who takes military veterans out on fishing excursions through Project Healing Waters.  I wish to thank FEDA, FCSI, MAFSI and CFESA for their help in identifying these deserving individuals.  (FER staff members chose the operator award.)  Be sure to read their stories starting on pg.  52.  In year’s past, we’ve celebrated the Industry Service Awards, along with the Young Lions and Management Excellence winners, biennially during February’s The NAFEM Show.  But this year, we will instead host a wonderful celebration at the NRA Show.  It will take place Sunday, May 19, at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, Chicago.  An added bonus: we will invite the NRA KI Award recipients to the stage to be recognized for their accomplishments.  The celebration kicks off at 5 p.m., so plan to come straight off the show floor for cocktails and networking.  We’ll serve heavy hors d’oeuvres and plan to finish at 7:45 p.m. so you can still attend other evening events or make dinner plans.  For tickets, contact Christine Palmer at cpalmer@fermag.com. I look forward to meeting you there.
