Ghost kitchens are anything but invisible nowadays, and Nathan’s Famous has more than doubled down on the growing industry trend.

On Monday, Feb. 8, Nathan’s announced that it had opened its 100th ghost kitchen—a trend the New York chain (along with many others, including Red Lobster, BurgerFi and Portillo’s) began to tap into amid the coronavirus pandemic. The newest site is housed in The Black Iron Burger, an independent Brooklyn restaurant, and it offers products from Wings of New York as well as Nathan’s.

“Opening virtual kitchens has been part of our overall restaurant strategy for some time, with our first partnership being with Franklin Junction in [June] 2020,” said James Walker, senior vice president of restaurants. “We want to bring the Flavor of New York to more guests through these great partners.”

In addition to growing a following for his own brand, Walker said Nathan’s hopes to “help other restaurants by providing them additional business during these turbulent times.”

Nathan’s and Wings of New York reportedly plan to open another 45 ghost kitchens in the months ahead.
