In Memoriam: Thomas Funka

Thomas Murray Funka, Sr., the retired owner and president of The Zeroll Co., has died. He purchased the ice cream scoop manufacturer in 1968. He and his brother, Art, built the company, then known as Roll Dippers, into a major presence in the market; among their initiatives was creating a national network of sales reps. The company moved back in 1981 to Toledo, where it was founded, from neighboring Maumee, Ohio, and reverted to its original name, The Zeroll Co. Funka and the company relocated to Ft. Pierce, Fla,. in ’90. The company was sold to Greenfield World Trade/Asbury Foodservice in 2008 and is now part of the Legacy Companies. It celebrated its 75th anniversary last year. A visitation and memorial service took place May 22 in Fort Pierce, Fla.
