Dealers, IDPC Continue Battling Interior Design Legislation

The fight continues against legislation that could limit a foodservice distributor’s ability to bid on or perform interior-design work. FEDA reports that in April it notified its South Carolina members about a hearing regarding HB 3417, a bill which, if adopted, would be one of the most restrictive interior-design laws in the country and make South Carolina only the fourth state to regulate who can offer design services. Members were asked to write to their legislators opposing the legislation and, if possible, attend the hearing itself.

The bill was tabled thanks to testimony by Patti Morrow, head of the Interior Design Protection Council. Morrow, whose group works closely with FEDA, indicated that tabling the bill, or letting it languish in committee, is often the politically expedient way to kill a bill.
