Alto-Shaam Honored For Workforce Development, Names Northeast Sales Manager

Alto-Shaam was recently awarded the 2013 Wisconsin Manufacturer of the Year Grand Award for workforce development. The award, announced at a Feb. 27 black tie banquet in Milwaukee, honored Alto-Shaam for its commitment to the continual development of its employees and its charitable contributions, including:

  • Establishing an Alto-Shaam University to help ensure all employees have the skills for success.
  • Hiring more than 50 full-time employees in 2013.
  • Offering high school students the ability to learn about Alto-Shaam’s different paths to success, such as Skills2Schools tours.
  • Participating in the rollout of Second Chance Students Program for credit-deficient high school students and employing those students on an ongoing basis for the last three years.
  • Hosting the fifth annual Jerry Maahs Memorial Golf Outing in support of lymphoma research. The 2013 tournament attracted 150+ participants and raised more than $60,000 for cancer research.

In other Alto-Shaam news, the Menomonee Falls, Wis., company has hired John Alfano, CFSP, as its northeast regional sales manager. He will be responsible for managing and developing the company’s business in a territory spanning Virginia through Maine. Alfano, who got his start 20 years ago as a territory sales manager for Hobart, most recently was with BSE Marketing, Alto-Shaam’s New York Metro-based rep agency; prior to that, he had his own firm working with Unified Brands on the school, multiunit, chain and contract-management business segments.
