In Memoriam: Rep Don Camacho Jr.

Donald Camacho Jr., a second-generation manufacturers’ rep, died suddenly April 19 at his home in Pleasant Prairie, Wis. He was 64.

The Chicago native was self-employed in Zion, Ill., as the owner/operator of Don Camacho & Associates. He had worked with his father, Donald Sr., representing a wide range of foodservice equipment companies. The company was honored by MAFSI in 2012 for 50 years of membership.

“As a second-generation manufacturer’s rep, Don spent his entire life in the foodservice equipment and supplies business,” commented FER Publisher Robin Ashton, who knew both Don and his father. “He was one of the most knowledgeable and innovative reps in the market. He was an early adapter of many new technologies, which he saw as tools to better help both his factories and his customers. His untimely passing is a great loss to us all.”

Camacho served as a Marine pilot during the Vietnam War, flying jets off aircraft carriers until he was honorably discharged. He was active in MAFSI and other industry associations, and was a member of the Arabian Horse Association; he bred and showed Arabian horses for more than 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, and is survived by his mother, Nancy; his wife, Elizabeth; six children; eight grandchildren; a brother and four sisters.
