Bonchon Appoints 2 Industry Veterans
The development leaders join the South Korea-born chain as it aims to expand from nearly 500 to 1,000 restaurants in the next five years.

Korean fried chicken chain Bonchon shared several appointments as it looks to grow in the U.S. and abroad.
David Wheeler—a 25-year industry veteran who has led development for Salata, Pollo Campero, Schlotzsky’s, and Cinnabon—joins the company as vice president of development. He will oversee aspects of franchise development and expansion, including site selection, construction, openings and cross-functional support.
“David brings the kind of franchise development expertise and industry relationships that are essential to driving Bonchon’s next phase of growth,” says Bonchon CEO Suzie Tsai. “He will pursue ambitious multiunit operators in high-potential markets as we focus on our most successful restaurant format and brand continuity.”
Further, Michel Haddad—formerly of Drive Shack and Sun Holdings, which includes Burger King, Popeyes, Arby’s, McAlister’s, IHOP, Applebee’s, Papa Johns and Taco Bueno—was appointed director of design and construction. In this role, he will ensure an efficient, timely and cost-effective build-out of new restaurants, drawing from his experience leading design and construction projects across the globe.
