Former Texas Roadhouse COO Acquires Chicken Concept Tumble 22
Doug Thompson will become CEO of the five-unit, Texas-based brand.
Former Texas Roadhouse COO Doug Thompson and the private equity firms BRS and Co. and Rosser Capital Partners have partnered to acquire the Texas-based, full-service hot chicken restaurant concept Tumble 22.
Tumble 22, with five locations in Texas, was founded by restaurateurs Guy Villavaso and Larry Foles, who have created and operated concepts under the Guy + Larry Restaurants umbrella, including Z’Tejas Southwestern Grill, Eddie V’s Prime Seafood, Hopdoddy and Roaring Fork, over the last three decades.
Guy + Larry Restaurants will maintain an ownership position in the company, while Thompson, who retired from Texas Roadhouse in late 2021, will become CEO. Thompson spent nearly 20 years with Texas Roadhouse, according to LinkedIn.
“It’s all about the people. Tory (Rooney, managing director at BRS) and Jacob (Organek, managing director at Rosser Capital Partners) are experienced partners on the financial side. Guy and Larry are legends in the industry, and I am honored to grow their brand,” says Thompson in a press release. “Tumble 22 has a fun culture, incredible food and phenomenal growth potential. I am thrilled to begin this new venture.”
Tumble 22, which serves Texas-raised chicken that’s hand-breaded and tumbled 22 times, has gone from a single food trailer to having five locations in less than four years, according to the company. The new owners say they aim to grow the concept in the emerging hot chicken space in new and existing markets.
