Sweetgreen will sell its Spyce business, which developed and launched its Infinite Kitchen technology, to Wonder for $186.4 million. Wonder has more than 80 locations, featuring multi-restaurant menu ordering, with delivery, pickup and dine-in options.

Sweetgreen says in the release that the sale will enable it to “reinvest in key priorities and sharpen its focus on growth and profitability.” It acquired Spyce in 2021 for some $70 million.

As part of the sale to Wonder, Sweetgreen put in place supply and licensing agreements that will allow it to continue to add Infinite Kitchens across its restaurants. The automated production line is now in use in over 20 of Sweetgreen’s 270-plus locations across the U.S. Sweetgreen says it speeds throughput, enhances food quality, accuracy and consistency, all while elevating the guest and employee experience.

Spyce’s 38 employees also will transition to Wonder.

“We remain deeply confident in both the Infinite Kitchen’s future impact and the brilliant team behind it,” Jonathan Neman, co-founder and CEO of Sweetgreen, says in a statement. “As we focus on driving long-term, profitable growth, our collaboration with Wonder will enable us to continue expanding and enhancing the Sweetgreen experience for our guests, while unlocking new opportunities for innovation and scale in the years ahead.”
