Many manufacturers are hard at work redesigning refrigeration systems to run more efficiently to meet the Department of Energy’s more-stringent standards coming down the pipeline. Manufacturers of automatic commercial ice machines in particular can now take advantage of Emerson Climate Technologies’ Copeland Next Gen C-Series Compressor for Ice (CSKIE). The reciprocating hermetic compressor improves energy efficiency in an ice machine by optimizing for the equipment’s range of operating conditions. “Unlike a walk-in cooler or reach-in refrigerator, an ice machine has 4 different cycles with different operating conditions at each—start, stabilize, finish and harvest—at which the compressor performs at a specific condition for a certain period of time,” says Ani Jayanth, Emerson Climate Technologies Marketing Manager, Foodservice. “Instead of shoehorning a standard compressor meant for fixed-temperature applications into an ice machine, Emerson has optimized the CSKIE for those 4 cycles; the compressor reduces energy costs for end-users and helps manufacturers meet energy-efficiency standards.” The CSKIE comes in 12 models with varying capacities and qualifies for R-404a (and R-448a upon request) in single phase and 3-phase electrical power.
