National Food Safety Month Kicks Off 20th Anniversary

National Food Safety Month begins this week, marking 20 years of promoting best practices for food safety. The 20th anniversary is being celebrated in September by featuring 20 top food-safety tips from the past two decades.

NFSM was created in 1994 by the National Restaurant Association to heighten awareness about the importance of food-safety education. It offers free resources for foodservice industry professionals at foodsafetymonth.com. Throughout September, the website will highlight tips for food-safety topics ranging from cleaning and sanitizing, cross-contamination and time-temperature control to personal hygiene and allergens.

Each year, NFSM offers a new theme and free training activities are created for the restaurant and foodservice industry to help reinforce proper food-safety practices and procedures. The training materials are based on the association’s ServSafe food-safety training and certification program.
